The Environment
Trafford Hall championed environmental polices long before care for the environment became a prominent political issue.
Our Stable building is carbon neutral and our Segal bedrooms adhere to Trafford Hall's environmental ethos. We have a commitment for the whole site to be carbon neutral by 2012 and are well on our way to achieving this goal:
- We have achieved Level 4 of the Green Dragon Standard for our environmental system (EMS) and hope to achieve international recognised ISO 14001. The EMS includes an environmental review of all our facilities and services, a monitoring system for recording fuel and resource use, a legislation compliance audit and an ambitious action plan for minimising our environmental impact;
- We have installed solar thermal and solar PV on our Stable building and solar PV on the main hall; and secondary glazing has been installed to the original windows.
- We have improved the energy efficiency of our buildings and operations which has led to a significant reduction in our fuel use. We have improved our on-site recycling facilities and reduced the amount of waste sent to landfill by a third.
- We have installed water saving devices in all the conventional toilet and low flow devices to all our showers.
- Our gardens are organically managed and we use the produce from our kitchen garden in our restaurant. In addition our staff allotments scheme provides produce for the restaurants.
- We support biodiversity throughout the grounds.
